2013 Web.com Tour Qualifying School

1st Stage - Dayton, Nevada

This week Derek played in the first stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying School (formerly PGA Tour Qualifying School) down in Dayton, Nevada at Dayton Valley Country Club.

This is a course Derek is familiar with, as he has played here several occasion for past PGA Tour qualifying.  His four round scores were: 72-68-72-70, finishing at -6 total (282).  He just got off the golf course from his fourth and final round, hence me providing the blog update this time (Candice). As Derek put it "Ahhh, it feels good to be done.  I hit it solid all day today, and for the majority of the round I two-putted from 40 feet.  I couldn't hit anything that close due to the wind and the pin placements, combined with firm and fast greens.  Of all 4 of the rounds this week, this was my most solid round.  I am relieved to be off the course, and headed home in the morning.".

Today's round consisted of one bogey on #9, and three birdies on #s 3, 11 and 15.  Derek finished in 5th overall, which easily advances him to the 2nd stage of q school. Location and date of 2nd stage is tbd, depending on the location he gets assigned.  To see the full results, along with hole by hole stats see the results page here.

All American Tour - Event #12 - Derek Finishes T4

This week's All American Tour event was out at Sundance Golf Club in Buckeye, Arizona.

Derek had a great tournament this week, and posted rounds of69, 68, and 69.  Derek was -5 for the day going into the 17th tee, but an unfortunate drive caused him to take an unplayable and therefore a double on #17.  He finished at -3 for the day, with a three round today of -10.

This got him a T4th finish for this event. Tournament Info and the leaderboard can be found here.

Next week he plays at Anthem GC (formerly scheduled as a Gateway Tour Event). More info to come on this next week.

All American and Gateway Tours Merge

I have been playing on both the Gateway Pro Tour and the All American Tour this winter, down here in Phoenix.  It was announced last week that these two tours will merge, since the All American Tour bought out the Gateway Pro Tour. For more info on the merge, go here: http://gatewayprotour.com/the-all-american-tour-and-gateway-pro-tour-merge/ .

So what that means for us golfs is that we no longer have to pick which tour to play in each week..  There were a few co-sanctioned events with these two tours in the past few weeks. Now the schedule will likely be more complete (less non-tournament weeks we are hoping), and all golfers will be competing in one tournament.

We are not sure if the two website will merge, so for now you can continue to follow along with:

Q School Update

At the first stage of Q School, I was down in Dayton Valley GC in Nevada.  I had a solid first round, of -4 (68).  The last three rounds felt pretty solid and overall were decent rounds, however I did not like my finish of each of them. Nevertheless, the number at the end of the day was enough to move on to the 2nd stage of Q School. My rounds can be seen here.

I have been assigned to Panama City Beach, FL for 2nd stage.  So next week I head down to Florida to get acclimated and prepare for Hombre Golf Course. You can follow along with second stage here. The first round starts on Nov 14th, finishing on the 17th.

Stay tuned for more info.

Recap and Ready for Q School

Well a lot has occurred in the major lapse of time since our last post. Derek and I are sorry that we haven't had the time to update this blog, and moving forward we will make this a bigger priority. As a brief update, here is the skinny on what has occurred this past 9 months with Derek's golf:
  • January through April Derek spent playing on the Gateway Tour down in Phoenix
  • July through September Derek ventured down to the Southeast and played on the NGA Tour (formerly the Hooters Tour)
  • September we got married!
  • Fall 2012 Derek will be playing at PGA Tour Q School

Right now Derek is already down in Dayton, Nevada for the 1st stage of PGA Tour Q School.  After a slight hiccup in the transportation of his precious golf clubs, his clubs arrived! Not the first time this has happened to him.  That only cut into one day of practice, and then Derek spent Sunday and Monday practicing (see pictures).

Today was round one and it was a smooth round for Derek. He shot a bogey-free -4.  Full results from today's round can be found here.

Tomorrow Derek tees off at 9:38. Stay tuned for more updates.

Heading South for the Summer

My visit to Seattle for a month an a half was nice, despite the rainy month of June. Home is always missed, so it was a nice refresh.  Last weekend I got down here to the Southeast; Georgia to be specific this week. I will be spending the next 7 weeks traveling down here playing on the NGA Tour. In the next 7 weeks, there are 5 events that I will be playing in. The tour summer schedule can be found here. After the 7 weeks I will head back home to get married and enjoy some time with family and friends. Then it will be time to focus on PGA Tour Q School.

This week's tournament is at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega, GA.

T-3 Going Into Final Round at Papago Tournament

Today I got off to a bad start with a 3 putt on my first hole of the round, but then I played solid the rest of the round.  I had a total of two bogey's today, along with six birdies.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow and playing the same way.

Results from today's round can be found here.

T-2 at Papago Gateway Tournament #8

Yesterday Derek shot a great round of 66 (-6).  He had 6 birdies, an eagle and a double bogey. After the first round he was tied for 2nd place.  As I type he is out on the course playing his second round.  I will be joining up to watch his second 9 in a matter of minutes.

Results can be found here.

We will update more tonight.

March Update

Well February came and went very fast despite having an extra day in the month.  My schedule involved playing in three 3 events as well as a few days to travel home to Seattle to celebrate my engagement to Candice with our families.

February was a so-so month, having not finished as well as I would have liked. However I am still making the majority of cuts and bringing home a paycheck. I am struggling with ball striking but feeling great about my putting.

The Gateway Tour Events that I am playing in can be followed here.

Until next time,
Derek

T-2 Finish this week, now on to next week's tournament

My 3rd and final round today started off windy.  The windy conditions lasted for my first three holes, and on my first hole the wind physically blew me off my putt.

Throughout the round I hit the ball okay, but I also made some unfortunate bogeys because I didn't hit the ball solid earlier in the day.  During the round today I had a couple wedge shots that I just didn't hit close enough to give myself a decent putt for birdie. On #4 I had a great up and down to save par, and on #8 I made a 15 footer for birdie.  I finished the round with a total of 7 birdies and 4 bogeys (-3), putting me at -10 for the tournament.  I was pleased with a T-2 finish, and I look forward to going out next week for the tournament at Raven GC.

The results from the tournament this week can be found here.
